The Reading Game
It is the end of the
second quarter at our school and that means our reading bags our filled with
books.
Before I send the Second
Quarter Reading Bags home permanently, the children have one last assignment
with them. They must complete The Reading Game.
The Reading Game goes like this:
1. All your books must be
complete and you must read them to a grown up in the classroom.
2. When you receive your
Game sheet, you begin to read and collect signatures.
3. You must read each book
to a friend. A friend may only sign your
sheet one time. (That means there will
be 13 different signatures on the sheet.)
4. If someone is polite and
listens to you read, you must return the favor.
My little ones love this
game. They are very serious about
collecting their signatures and reading.
I am observing lots of wonderful buddy reading, helping their friends track words and sound out. It is amazing to see how far they have come
in just a few short months.
To prepare for the
reading game I have typed all the books they have worked on this quarter on a
chart.
My little ones keep all
their books in a gallon size Ziploc bag inside their reading boxes under the bench.
I love the reading game! What a great and authentic way to practice reading. I may have to adapt that to my classroom.
