Thinking of the First Day

My partner teacher and I are going through the English Common Core Standards this summer to see where we need to add some activities.  One area that is standing out to us is syllables.  We need to do more activities with syllables.  So I am looking back through my kindergarten activities to find some activities.  

Long story short, we came up with this idea for the first day of school.  We thought it would be fun for the students to walk around the room and write down the names of their new classmates.  They will be able to look on the lockers or their desks to see how to spell their names.
