Happy Columbus Day

After exploring the internet for a while this is my plan to celebrate and learn about
Columbus Day tomorrow.

The book I am going to read is, IN 1492.

I am a huge fan of Brainpop Jr. and I love that my class has a subscription to the site.
Even if you do not have a subscription to BrainpopJr. you can view Columbus Day because it is the free movie of the week.

I found this project on Pinterest, however I am not sure if my little ones are going to get the ship in the bottle thing so I am going to modify it a bit.

My Version
I think my changes will help my little ones understand that Columbus sailed across the ocean.
That at the time of Columbus, he was one of the few people who thought the Earth was round.
And because I teach at a Catholic School, I will mention that the cross was a symbol of Christianity.  (I will leave out the part that Columbus did not behave very nicely when he arrived at his destination. Some things are better said when they are older.)

Here is the link is you would like to have the rhyme for  the project:

If there is time at the end of the day.......

I have a video bookmarked from youtube called Christopher Columbus.  There are 10 parts to this movie.
Here is my link to my bookmarks for the smartboard:
