Writing Center

“If your mind isn’t clouded by unnecessary things, this is the best season of your life.”    Wu-Men

I read this quote in, Organized Simplicity, by Tsh Oxenreider and it is something that I have been thinking about as I put my classroom together.

Today I am working in my Writing Center and I am trying to create an environment where the children will grow as writers and enjoy writing.

I have several key components in my writing center:
The top shelf is where we keep the scrap paper.  The bottom drawers on the left is the crayon organizers and the right drawer contains stickers, stencils and plain white paper.
Here are the mailboxes.  I found them at Lakeshore Learning two years ago.
I created labels for the shelves where the supplies will go.  I plan to model different types of writing and then I will put out the supplies.  I have:  books, postcards, cards, letters, and lists.
I will create samples  as I model for the children in a mini lesson then I will put the different types of writing up on the bulletin board.
I have all the names of the children hanging up in the writing center so the children can write to their friends.
This is the word box where I keep words that the children frequently ask me to spell.  The post its are the give it a try sheets.
This is my writing center, simple and organized, so the children and enjoy writing.
